To suppress an increase in the power consumption of a device and an increase in processing time when in-talking information is recorded on and reproduced from the card by providing a no-data area between an information recording area and a timing bit recording area.
The card 2 is provided with a magnetic track 3, which is provided with a data recording area 3A where call-rate data are recorded and timing bit recording areas 3B, 3C, and 3D where timing bits are recorded before and behind the data recording area 3A in the conveyance direction. A control circuit detects the timing bits through a head part and determines the position of the data recording area 3A to record and reproduce the call-rate data. Then in-talking information is recorded in the area 3C, which is an area 3E. Thus, the area 3E where the in-talking information is recorded and the data recording area 3A are separated, the border part between both the areas is a no-data area, and many in-talking information bits can be stored in the area 3E.
