To provide a hybrid type cargo handling machine having a device for sufficiently protecting a secondary battery.
The cargo handling machine includes a motor, a generator, a converter for converting AC power from the generator into DC power, an inverter for converting the DC power from the converter into AC power for driving the motor, the secondary battery connected between a high voltage side DC bus bar and a low voltage side DC bus bar for constituting a DC bus bar between the converter and the inverter, and a brake resistance unit connected between the high voltage side DC bus bar and the low voltage side DC bus bar. The brake resistance unit is constituted of a switching element, a brake resistance connected between the high voltage side DC bus bar and the low voltage side DC bus bar by turning on the switching element, a voltage detecting part for detecting a voltage between the high voltage side DC bus bar and the low voltage side DC bus bar, and a control part controlling the on/off-operation of the switching element, and the control part control the switching element in the on-operation by issuing an excessive rise signal to the control part when the voltage detected by the voltage detecting part is higher than a predetermined set value.
