PURPOSE: To enable to stow a cargo evenly, by a method wherein an opening and stopping position of a hatch cover can be adjusted arbitrarily, and a chute inclined at an angle of not smaller than the angle of repose of the cargo is provided at an opening provided in a central part of the cover.

CONSTITUTION: At an upper part of a ship's hold 12 for loading a bulk cargo such as ores 11 in the case of an ore freighter 10, the hatch cover 1 is provided in such a manner that the cover can be slidden in the athwartships direction of the hull and the opening and stopping position of the cover 1 can be adjusted arbitrarily. The cover 1 is provided with the opening 3 in its central part, and a fixed chute 4 consisting of a plate inclined at an angle of not smaller than the angle of repose of the ore 11 is provided at the opening 3. A cover 7 for the opening 3 is provided at one end of the opening 3, and when the conver 7 is opened, the back side of the cover 7 constitute an inclined surface continuous with the inclined surface of the fixed chute 4. Accordingly, the loading positio of the ore 11 can be shifted from A to B in accordance with the opening position of the hatch cover 1.
