An aluminum compound, a silicon compound and an alkali metallic compound are added to α-alumina having 1-70 mmol/kg alkali metal content and they are fired to obtain the objective carrier of an ethylene oxide production catalyst containing 0-3 mol/kg (expressed in terms of Al) aluminum compound, 0.01-2 mol/kg (expressed in terms of Si) silicon compound and 0.01-2 mol/kg (expressed in terms of alkali metal) alkali metallic compound.
