To provide a carrier for electrostatic latent image development and a method for manufacturing the carrier having high adhesiveness between a core material and a coating layer and having a coating layer of uniform thickness; to provide a developer using the carrier, free from toner splashing or contamination on a base and capable of forming an image with high image density; and to provide an image forming method using the developer.
The method for manufacturing the carrier includes a dissolving step of dissolving at least a coating material in carbon dioxide in a liquid state and a coating layer forming step of forming a coating layer on the surface of the core material by reducing the solubility of the solution in which the coating material is dissolved, by controlling at least either pressure or temperature. In preferred embodiments, the pressure in the dissolving step is equal to or higher than the critical pressure (7.38 MPa) of carbon dioxide, and the carbon dioxide in a liquid state is changed into carbon dioxide in a supercritical or sub-critical state in the coating layer forming step.
