To provide a cash processing apparatus which can improve dispensing processing speed, and suppressing a failure such as a defective bill jam by preventing a defective bill from circulating back to a conveying path or a safe, leading to improvement of product quality.

The cash processing apparatus is a device for depositing and dispensing cash to/from a safe C via an insertion port and a delivery port 12. The cash processing apparatus includes: a conveying means 2 having a conveying path 21 connected to the insertion port, the delivery port 12, and the safe C, and a discriminating means 20 for discriminating cash, and conveying cash via the conveying path 21; a temporary storage part E for temporarily storing the cash inserted from the insertion port; and a defective bill recovery part G, mounted aside from the temporary storage part E, for accumulating cash, determines whether the cash taken out from the safe C is cash related to a delivery instruction based on the discrimination result by the discriminating means 20, when cash related to the delivery instruction is conveyed from the safe C to the delivery port 12 via the conveying means 2 according to the delivery instruction for paying out the cash in the safe C; conveys the cash as defective bills to the defective bill recovery part G when the cash is determined not to be the cash related to the delivery instruction, and maintains accumulating the defective bills in the defective bill recovery part G.
