PURPOSE: To provide a titled casting mold which improves the heat transmission between a molding board and the mold by the constitution consisting in providing peripherally detaining parts to the side face in the bottom of the flat casting mold of which the inside surface is deposited with a heat insulating material, casting a molten steel into such mold and solidifying unidirectionally the molten steel from the bottom to the top part.
CONSTITUTION: The casting nold 2 for a unidirectionally solidified ingot forms said ingot by installing the flat casting mold 2 of which the inside surface is deposited with the heat insulating material 3 on the molding board 1, casting the molten steel 8 into the mold 2 to the prescribed height by top or bottom pouring charging a heat insulating material 4 to the surface of the molten steel 8 and solidifying unidirectionally the molten steel from the base to the top part. ≥1 detaining parts 7 each having a rectangular and tapered sectional shape are peripherally provided to the side face in the bottom of the above-mentioned mold 2. The chamber at the base of the ingot as a result of solidification in the stage of solidifying is thus prevented and the heat transmission between the board 1 and the ingot is improved, by which the unidirectionally solidified ingot having the large ingot height is obtd. at a good yield.
