Abstract:

PURPOSE: To prevent the deterioration of the plastic workability of a catalyst carrier by successively laminating an Al-Fe alloy layer and a thin alumina layer on the surface of a porous body made of stainless steel contg. no Al and having gas permeability in one direction to form the catalyst carrier.

CONSTITUTION: A metal bar is produced with stainless steel contg. no Al and the surface of the bar is plated with Al. This plated bar is rolled and formed into a corrugated porous body having gas permeability in one direction and the porous body is heat-treated at 600-1,000°C for ≥10min to produce a catalyst carrier. Since this carrier has a thin alumina layer having performance comparable to that of alumina whiskers, the plastic workability does not deteriorate and mass productivity can be increased. The pref. thickness of the thin alumina layer is 1-10μm.
