PURPOSE: To provide a catalyst carrier obtaining high purifying capacity, low in gas passing resistance, reduced in pressure loss and making a purifying device compact by arranging shaped wire materials so as to mutually have contact points to bond the same at the contact points.
CONSTITUTION: Wire materials 1 are formed into a spiral, wavy, sawlike, square or random shape and these shaped wire materials 1 are arranged so as to mutually have contact points to be bonded at the contact points and gathered to form a catalyst carrier which is, in turn, directly received in a case 5. By the use of this catalyst carerier, gas passing resistance is lowered and pressure loss is reduced. Further, in the case of the same pressure loss, a cross-sectional area can be reduced and loading properties are improved. Since the contact efficiency of exhaust gas and a catalyst is high, even when a geometrical surface area is low, high purifying capacity can be obtained. Further, Fe-Cr-Al type stainless steel is used as, a heat-resistance material and the corresponding diameter of each wire material is set to 0.05-0.8mm.
