To provide a new support type catalyst component which uses a trivalent transition metal compound capable of being easily prepared and is used for polymerizing an olefin, to provide a catalyst which comprises the combination of the catalyst component with an ordinary organic aluminum compound, can express a sufficient high activity, and is used for polymerizing the olefin, and to provide a method for polymerizing the olefin in the presence of the catalyst.
This catalyst component which is prepared by bringing a trivalent titanium compound represented by the general formula (D and E are each an alkadienyl or a substituted alkadienyl; G and J are each a halogen atom; L is a 1 to 8C alkyl or a halogen; M is a 1 to 8C alkyl, a halogen atom or H; D and E, G and J, L and M may be each the same) into contact with a magnesium compound and is used for polymerizing an olefin.
