Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a catalyst for economically producing lactones, which is long in service life and high in selectivity coefficient of a reaction product, and to provide a method for producing lactones efficiently by using the catalyst.
SOLUTION: This catalyst for producing lactones is obtained by depositing a copper compound, a zinc compound and at least one of alkaline earth metal compounds on a carrier. The method for producing lactones comprises activating the obtained catalyst and subjecting a diol to dehydrocyclization reaction in the presence of the activated catalyst in the vapor phase.
