Abstract:
PURPOSE: To produce an olefin polymer having excellent particle properties, a wide molecular weight distribution, excellent melt tension and excellent moldability in high polymerization activity.
CONSTITUTION: A catalyst for the polymerization of an olefin comprise a solid catalyst component obtained by impregnating a particulate carrier comprising an oxide of at least one element selected from among the elements of groups II, III and IV and having an adsorbed water content of below 1.0wt.% and a surface hydroxyl content of 1.0wt.% or above with an organoaluminumoxy compound and a group IV transition metal compound containing at least two ligands having a cyclopentadienyl skeleton and optionally an organoaluminum compound. This process comprises polymerizing or copolymerizing an olefin in the presence of the above catalyst.
