Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a high-mol.-wt. propylene copolymer without being accompanied by fouling, by polymerizing propylene at a high temp. in the presence of a catalyst comprising a cocatalyst component obtd. by the contact of an ionic compd. with a fine particulate carrier, a metallocane compd., an organoaluminum compd., and an organometallic compd.
SOLUTION: The 'high temp.' means 60-85°C. The ionic compd. is represented by formula I: [M1(R1)a(R2)b(R3)c(R4-L)d]-[D]+ (wherein M1 is B or Al; R1 to R3 are each a 1-20C hydrocarbon group, etc., R4 is a 1-20C heteroatom-contg. hydrocarbon group; L is silyl, etc.; D is a monovalent cation; (a) to (c) are each 0-3; and (d) is 1-4). The fine particulate carrier is, e.g. silica. The metallocene compd. is represented by formula II (wherein R5 to R10 are each H, a halogen, an alkoxy, etc.; M2 to M4 are each C, Si, Ge, or Sn; M5 is Ti, Zr, Hf, or V; (p), (q), and (r) and each 0-2; Q is a specific hydrocarbon group; and X is a halogen H, etc.). The organometallic compd. is, e.g. an organolithium.
