Abstract:
PURPOSE:To firmly support many pieces of ceramic catalyst on the monolithic catalyst carrier of a catalyst for purifying exhaust gas and to enhance the purifying ability and durability by forming many recesses of a specified diameter in the surface of the carrier. CONSTITUTION:Many recesses 6 of 5-30mum diameter are formed in the surface of the monolithic catalyst carrier 4 of a catalyst 2 for purifying exhaust gas from an internal-combustion engine so as to directly and firmly support many pieces of ceramic catalyst 8 on the carrier 4. The effective surface area of the carrier 4 is increased and the catalyst 8 is supported even in the recesses 6, so cracking due to the deterioration of thermal shock resistance is not caused. The amt. of the catalyst 8 supported is increased, the falling of the catalyst 8 is prevented and the purifying ability and durability are enhanced.
