PURPOSE: To reduce the number of wires between chips constituting a CCD image pickup device and to miniaturize the device by forming a decoder, a vertical transfer register driver for receiving an output from the decoder and driving a vertical transfer register and a horizontal transfer register driver on one IC.
CONSTITUTION: A timing generator 1 generates a clock pulse CK, an HV separating pulse SEL and a shutter pulse DSUB for controlling a CCD solid state image pickup element 3. A decoder IC2 receives the pulses CK, SEL and transfers vertical transfer pulses V1 to V4, horizontal transfer pulses 1, 2 and a reset pulse RG for A controlling the element 3 to the element 3. An electronic shutter driver 7 generates a shutter pulse DSUB with amplitude 20V based on the pulse DSUB generated from the generator 1 and sends the pulse DSUB to a base bias circuit in the element 3. The decoder IC 2 is constituted of forming a decoder 4, a vertical transfer register driver 5 and a horizontal transfer register 6 on one IC.
