PURPOSE: To conserve concn. or dilution labor, to shorten a work time and to enable the use of a detector narrow in measuring range.
CONSTITUTION: In a spectrophotometer consisting of a light source 1, a monochrometer 2, a photodetector 4, an amplifier 5 and an operation and signal display device 6, a cell 3 having a plurality of different light path lengths is used in order to measure an unknown sample. The light emitted from the light source 1 becomes monochromatic light 7 by the monocrometer 2 to pass through the cell 3. The position of the cell is set at a proper light path length position by changing a moving direction 10 on the basis of the absorbancy at this time and, even when the cell is not present within a measuring range, measurement becomes possible.
