Title:
CELL WALL TREATMENT OF FAFIA PHODOMARCH YEAST
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPH08214870
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:
PURPOSE: To enable easy extraction of astaxanthin which is useful for supplying diet pigment into a solvent without its decomposition by heat-treating the cell bodies of Fafia rhodozyma yeast followed by chemical treatment.
CONSTITUTION: The cell bodies of Fafia rhodozyma is heat-treated, preferably at a temperature higher than 40°C, then chemically treated (acidic treatment and/or alkali treatment) in an aqueous medium. Since the chemical treatment can be applied under very mild conditions, the astaxanthin in the cell bodies are kept stable and readily extracted into acetone or the like.
