To provide a centrifugal separator which facilitates separation of foreign matters which exist in washing water and have specific gravities that are not significantly different from that of water, in particular, charged matters, and to provide a washing machine including the centrifugal separator.SOLUTION: The disclosure relates to a centrifugal separator 20 which centrifugally separates foreign matters contained in washing water (liquid) flowing through a water passage 19a. The centrifugal separator 20 includes: a case 21 which communicates with and is connected to the water passages 19a and 19b; a hollow rotary cylinder 22 rotatably provided within the case 21; a liquid inlet 22a which allows the washing water to flow from the water passage 19a into the rotary cylinder 22; a liquid outlet 22b which allows the washing water to flow from the rotary cylinder 22 into the water passage 19b; and a cylinder motor 23 which rotationally drives the rotary cylinder 22. Further, the centrifugal separator 20 includes: a swirl flow generation part 24; and a liquid inflow part 28 through which the washing water flows into the swirl flow generation part 24. Furthermore, the centrifugal separator 20 includes electrodes which generate electric fields against the washing water, electrophoreses charged matters, and then centrifugally separates the charged matters with the rotary cylinder 22.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 2
