PURPOSE: To enhance the thermal efficiency of a ceramic engine and the durability of a head gasket by forming a cylinder head and a cylinder block of cerammics, forming a projection on one of them and a groove to be engaged with the projection on the other, thereby covering the entire periphery of a combustion chamber with the ceramics.
CONSTITUTION: A cylinder head 11 and a cylinder block 12 are formed of ceramics. The end of an annular projection 12a formed on the block 12 is engaged with an annular groove 11a formed on the head 11, thereby sealing a head gasket 14 interposed between the head 11 and the block 12 from a combustion chamber 13, and the entire inner surface of the chamber 13 is surrounded by ceramics. Therefore, flame or the like in the chamber 13 does not operate directly the gasket 14, thereby improving the durability and the thermal efficiency of the chamber 13.
