To provide a CGROM control circuit which enables an OSD display adaptable to many languages without widening the bus width of a decoding circuit and can deal with many languages while suppressing an increase in cost small.
A ROMENDA register 2j where the start addresses of CGROMs 2f and 2g are set is provided and the values of the ROMENDA register 2j are varied to display characters more than a number limited by a decoding circuit 2c. The CGROMs 2f and 2g are provided by languages and CG data displayed in respective language switching pictures are arranged at positions of the same character number in the CGROMs 2f and 2g so that language switching pictures by the languages can be displayed with the data arrangement of the same VRAM 2b, thereby switching the languages only by changing the values in the ROMENDA register 2j.
