PURPOSE: To obtain the subject woven fabric for preventing the abrasion, cracking, etc., of a part contacting with a wheel rim by performing leno weaving of a sheath-core conjugate fiber having core component consisting of a specific polyester and a sheath component consisting of a polyamide and arranged around the core component.
CONSTITUTION: A chafer fabric for tire reinforcement is produced by the leno weaving of a sheath-core conjugate fiber consisting of (A) a core component composed of a polyester containing ethylene terephthalate unit as main component and (B) a sheath component composed mainly of a polyamide and arranged around the core component. The ratio of the component A is 30-90wt.%, the conjugate fiber has a strength of ≥7.5g/d, an elongation of ≤20%, an initial tensile modulus of ≥60g/d and a dry-heat shrinkage of ≤7% at 150°C, the polyester of the component A has an intrinsic viscosity of 0.8 and a birefringence of 160×10-3 - 190×10-3 and the polyamide of the component B has a relative viscosity of ≥2.8 (in sulfuric acid), a birefringence of ≥50×10-3, etc. The chafer fabric is woven with a twisted cord made of the fiber having the above physical properties.
