To suppress deterioration in efficiency of driving a sprocket and occurrence of slack in a chain.SOLUTION: A chain comprises a plurality of inner link plates, a plurality of outer link plates, and a plurality of pins. In at least one of the plurality of inner link plates, the plurality of outer link plates and the plurality of pins, a surface hardening layer containing any one of Cr carbide, Ti carbide, V carbide, Nb carbide, Cr nitride, Ti nitride, V nitride and Nb nitride is provided on a part or all of a sliding surface with other parts.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 2
