PURPOSE: To prevent a change lever for controlling the transmission of a vehicle from disturbing the free movement of an occupant in the front seat of the vehicle.

CONSTITUTION: The upper lever 2 and lower lever 3 of a change lever 1 are connected to each other by a pivotal shaft 4 in vehicle transverse direction, and a pin 10 is mounted on the lower end of a strut 9 arranged on both sides of the upper lever 2 and having the upper end pivotally supported by a collar 6. The pin 10 is inserted through the elliptic hole 11 of the lower lever 3 and energized by a spring 19 and fitted to a recessed part 12 on the upper lever 2 lower end. The pin 10 is released from the recessed part 12 by pushing down the collar 6, whereby the upper lever 2 can be toppled backward with the pivotal shaft 4 as a center as shown by a two-dot chain line.
