Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a channel coding method which has a high conversion ratio and a high recording density ratio for the transmission and recording of digital data.
SOLUTION: This channel coding method includes a stage 30 which receives 1st data, a stage 31 which judges whether or not a synchronizing signal follows the data, a stage 32 which receives 2nd data when the stage 31 judges that no synchronizing signal follows it, a stage 33 which judges whether or not minimum run-length restrictions are violated at the time of channel coding by making use of a main code table, a stage 34 which performs channel coding of the 1st data by referring to the main code table when the synchronizing signal follows the data or when the minimum run-length restrictions are not violated, and stages 36 and 37 which code the 1st and 2nd input data bits by using at least one subordinate code table when the minimum run-length restrictions are violated.
