PURPOSE: To draw an emphasizing pattern on the whole of a character regardless of the size of the character in a character emphasizing pattern drawing system applying halftone photography to the character emphasized and indicated in a character row.

CONSTITUTION: An analyzing means 2 outputs the position, width and height D3 of the emphasized and indicated character in character row data D1 to a renewing means 3. The renewing means 3 calculates the printing range of an emphasizing pattern on the basis of the position, width and height D3 of the character to store the same in a control means 4. A dividing output means 5 outputs the printing start position of the emphasizing pattern D4 and the correction value to the size of the emphasizing pattern D4 to a printing means 6 when the printing range stored in the control means 4 is smaller than the size of the emphasizing pattern D4 and divides the printing range into a plurality of regions on the basis of the size of the emphasizing pattern D4 when the printing range is larger than the size of the emphasizing pattern D4 to output the printing start positions and correction values at every regions. The printing means 5 prints the emphasizing pattern D4 according to the data from the dividing output means 5.
