PURPOSE: To speed up mode switching operation and to speedily input characters, etc., by providing an input means with a mode selecting means so that a selected mode can be recognized.

CONSTITUTION: A tablet 21 (detecting means) is formed of a transparent material, an LCD 22 (display means) is arranged below it, and those are put together to constitute an input screen. A pen 23 (input means) for input is put on the tablet 21 to perform specific input operation. Further, a tablet control part 24 detects the position on the tablet 21 operated with the pen 23 and a display control part 25 controls the LCD 22 to make a specific display. The pen 23 has switches 23a-23c and a switch state detection part 27 detects the switching states of those switches 23a-23c. In this case, only one of the switches 23a-23c turns ON and ≥2 switches do not turn ON at the same time.
