PURPOSE: To provide a character inputting device in which the inputting work of character strings of plural types from a keyboard can be simplified.

CONSTITUTION: The character types constituted of the different numbers of bytes can be inputted from a key inputting part. This device is constituted of a RAM 12 which stores the character type inputted from a key inputting part 14 as the first character, and a ROM 13 equipped with a means which operates the fetching processing of characters inputted from the key inputting part when the character type inputted from the key inputting part is matched with the character type stored in the RAM 12, and which doesn't operate the fetching processing of the characters inputted from the key inputting part when the character type is not matched.
