PURPOSE: To make a fast character display by coupling a contour line generating means, a painting-out means, and a transfer means with 1st-3rd character development memories cyclically.
CONSTITUTION: When a character string consisting of plural characters is drawn continuously, a main processor 3 sends the indication for the contour drawing of a certain character in the character string to the contour line generating means 25 and one of the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd character development memories 15-17, e.g. 15, a painting-out indication to the painting-out means 26 for a character development memory, e.g. 16 where the contour of the character right before the character is written, and an indication for transferring the character pattern to a print memory 18 to the transfer means 17 for the remaining character development memory 17 where the two painted-out characters are written. This operation is repeated to process characters which are already processed by precedent means in parallel. Consequently, fast character drawing is possible.
