Abstract:
PURPOSE: To provide a character recognizing device unnecessitating noise removal and having high recognition performance without being affected by the noise of a character contour part by combining an edge feature determining the local direction of a character without being affected by noise and an outer feature determining the general feature of the character.
CONSTITUTION: The normalization of the location and size of the character pattern converted into an electric signal by a photoelectric conversion part 11 is performed in a normalization processing part 12 and is outputted to an outer feature extraction part 13 and an edge feature extraction part 14. In the outer feature extraction part 13, an outer feature is extracted from the normalized character pattern. In the edge feature extraction part 14, the direction and strength of the edge of the normalized character pattern are determined. A feature synthesizing part 15 inputs the outer feature from the outer feature extraction part 13 at first, inputs the edge feature at the outer point of each outer feature from the edge feature extraction part 14 and determines final feature amount. A discrimination part 16 takes a matching of the feature stored in the feature synthesizing part 15 and a preliminarily prepared feature dictionary table 17 of each character and performs the classification of the character pattern.
