To solve the problem of the charging of a power capacitor to its target voltage with an inverter for initial charging or an inverter for fine adjustment charging causing problems in charging speed and precision, and also causing size increase an increasing in cost of the charger.
In this charger, an inverter is removed from the conventional charger, and DC power supply rectified directly from AC power supply by a rectifier RF and a smoothing capacitor CF is obtained, and one chopper operation of a boosting chopper circuit constituted of a reactor L, a switch Q2, and diodes D1, D2 charges a capacitor with the DC power supply as a power supply. The charging voltage control is determined as time, until the switch Q2 turns off A switch Q1 restrains leakage current from the DC power supply to a capacitor C0 after the chopper operation, and performs feedback control of the turn-off time from the capacitor voltage. The switch Q1 also provides an inverter circuit for fine adjustment.
