The charger 3 for a portable device utilizes electromagnetic induction to charge the portable device 2 having an electronic settlement function and provided with a charging coil 12 for receiving power utilizing the electromagnetic induction. The charger 3 is provided with a power supply coil 22 for supplying power to the portable device 2 via the charging coil 12, a communication means 35 for performing communication with the portable device 2 through the charging coil 12 and the power supplying coil 22, and a settlement processing means 37 for performing communication to the portable device 2 by the communication means 35 to make electronic settlement processing.
