Abstract:
PURPOSE: To accurately judge the abnormality of a battery pack, prevent the overcharge of an abnormal battery, and safely charge a battery by detecting the convergence value of the charging current and the temperature of the battery, and judging whether the battery is an abnormal battery or not.
CONSTITUTION: A power source 1 converts AC 100V into the DC voltage required to charge a battery E, a charging circuit 2 charges the battery E with a constant current, and it charges the battery E with constant voltage to fully charge the battery E when the voltage of the battery E rises to a prescribed value. The output of a temperature sensor 5 is sent to a microcomputer 4, and the microcomputer 4 calculates the temperature and the charging current to judge whether the battery E being charged is abnormal or not. The microcomputer 4 judges the abnormality of the battery E on conditions that the convergence value of the charging current of the battery E is not zero and is larger than the prescribed value and the temperature of the battery E is higher than the prescribed temperature. When the microcomputer 4 judges that the battery E is abnormal, it turns off a switch means 3 to stop the charge of the battery E, and it turns on the abnormality display switch 8A of a display means 8.
