PURPOSE: To reduce the distance for a customer to place a basket on a check- out counter so that the customer can easily place the basket on the counter by inclining a part of a check-out counter according to the weight of a basket.

CONSTITUTION: When a customer places a basket 1 on the right end of a check- out counter 3, as a bar code reader 2 is installed on the central portion of the check-out counter 3, goods are taken out from the right basket 1, passed on the bar code reader 2 to read a bar code displayed on the goods, and put in a left basket 1. At this time, when the basket 1 where the goods are stored is moved to the right of the bar code reader 2, if a pressure sensor 8 incorporated in a movable table 6 detects pressure above a designated pressure (weight), a control portion 10 sends a driving signal to a motor 9 to move a rack 4 upward. A pinion gear 5 is driven by the motor 9 to raise the movable table 6. Thus, the goods in the basket 1 can easily be taken out so as to lower the position where a customer places a basket.
