Abstract:

To obtain a chemical treating soln. imparting superior adhesion and corrosion resistance to a thick coating film, the adhesion of which is kept satisfactory even when an aluminum alloy is dehydrated and dried after pretreatment with the chemical treating soln.

The chemical treating soln. for aluminum and its alloy contains 0.1-0.5 g/l hexavalent chromium ions, 0.01-0.5 g/l (expressed in terms of Zr) fluoro-zirconium ions, 0.01-0.1 g/l (expressed in terms of Si) water-soluble or colloidal silicon compd. and 0.1-0.5 g/l total fluorine and has pH 1.5-3.0. Aluminum or its alloy is treated with the chemical treating soln. before coating and a chromium coating film is formed on the surface by 5-20 mg/m2 (expressed in terms of Cr).
