Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide β-chitin nanofiber which is defibrated to a chitin microfibril unit in a uniform state, and a production method of β-chitin powder which can be preferably used for production of the β-chitin nanofiber.SOLUTION: A method for producing a β-chitin powder comprises, in which a β-chitin-containing material is a starting material: (a) a step for deproteinizing the β-chitin-containing material using alkali; (b) a step for decalcifying the material using acid; (c) a step for drying a processed product obtained in the step (b); and (d) a step for dry milling the dried matter obtained in the step (c), the steps are performed in the order of (a),(b),(c),(d), thereby the β-chitin powder is produced. Then the β-chitin powder is subjected to wet type defibrating processing, for acquiring β-chitin nanofiber whose fiber diameter is 3 nm-20 nm, whose average molecular weight is 10 kDa or higher and less than 100 kDa, or 100 kDa-1400 kDa.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 6
