Abstract:
PURPOSE: To obtain a novel chitinase inhibitor which is useful as an antimycotic agent, agrochemical or the like by using a cyclic dipeptide containing an arginine residue having high inhibitory activity against chitinase as an active ingredient.
CONSTITUTION: A cyclic dipeptide which contains arginine residue and is represented as a diketopiperazine derivative by formula I or II (R1 is a side chain originating from the amino acid, for example, H in glycine, methyl in alanine or isopropyl in valine; R2, R3 are each H, OH) is used as an active ingredient to give this inhibitor. The dipeptide content is preferably 0.1-70wt.% based on the whole preparation. This cyclic dipeptide of formula I or II is readily produced, for example, by effecting the condensation reaction between protected arginine and another amino acid using N,N-dicyclohexyl-carbodiimide, followed by deprotection and cyclization. The objective chitinase inhibitor is useful as a new type of antimycotic agent, a growth regulator of insects and a therapeutic agent for candidiasis.
