Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a composition excellent in thermal aging resistance and compression set resistance by mixing chloroprene rubber with a glycidyl compound such as tetraglycidyldiaminodiphenylmnethane, zinc oxide and a vulcanization accelerator in a specified ratio.
SOLUTION: This composition is obtained by mixing 100 pts.wt. chloroprene rubber with 0.1-10 pts.wt. glycidylamine compound having a structure of formula I (wherein R1 is CnH2n+1 or formula II; and n is an integer of 0 or greater), 1-20 pts.wt. zinc oxide and above 0.1 pt.wt. vulcanization accelerator. The chloroprene rubber contains a copolymer containing at most 50 wt.% comonomer such as 1-chloro-1,3-butadiene. The glycidylamine compound acts as a hydrogen chloride trapping agent and is especially desirably tetraglycidyldiaminodiphenylmethane or diglycidylaniline. Magnesium oxide used as a hydrochloric acid trapping agent is used in an amount of 1 pt.wt. or below, for it is detrimental to aging resistance and strain performances. The vulcanization accelerator is especially desirably e.g. ethylenethiourea.
