To provide a cholesteric liquid crystal display element which performs a bright and clear picture display in which an angle of field dependence is small without impairing the selected reflection color of a cholesteric liquid crystal, and also to provide a manufacturing method therefor.

The cholesteric liquid crystal element 1 is equipped with a substrate 2 to which alignment treatment is not applied and a liquid crystal layer 3 having a cholesteric regularity and performs selective reflection of at least a part of light of a visible region, wherein the liquid crystal layer is constituted in such a way that alignment is fixed by 3-dimensional cross-linking and it has a back scattering property and the thickness of the layer becomes thickness equal to or thicker than thickness causing the saturation of the back scattering property.
