Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical packet compression circuit capable of compressing optical packets with high time accuracy for constructing an optical packet network with high speed such as several hundreds Gbps.
SOLUTION: Optical pulses continuously generated by a clock generator 3001 and a laser oscillator 3002 are branched into N branches by an optical brancher 3003. On the other hand, input electrical signals #1-#N are mutually paralleled by serial/parallel conversion circuits to be temporarily stored in memories 3011. Contents in the memories 3012 are read out according to read signals from a clock signal control circuit 3019 and input to optical modulators 3004 through OR circuits 3017. The optical pulses are modulated based upon the input signals, delayed by optical delay lines 3008 having different delay times, wave-multiplexed by an optical wave multiplexer 3005 and output.
