To establish proper measures of a circulating document feeder against erroneous operations of the user and erroneous detection of the size of documents, by providing the feeder with a durable, simplified sheet re-feed member.
A circulating document feeder includes a sheet re-feed lever 274 adapted to slide on a rail 272 arranged below a document tray 60 in parallel with the document feed direction,. The lever 274 projects through a slot formed in the document tray 60 above the tray so as to move from its home position below a sheet discharge port toward a sheet feed port. When a discharge sensor senses a document on the document tray 60 and a feed-sheet empty sensor does not sense a feed sheet, the lever 274 is moved by a predetermined distance depending on the document size. When the empty sensor sensors feed sheets, on the other hand, the lever 274 is stopped are returned to the home position.
