Title:
CAN OPENER
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JP3177223
Kind Code:
B2
Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a novel and improved can opener having a cutting blade to be engaged with a can edge part.
SOLUTION: A manually operable can opener of edge cutting type comprises an approximately cylindrical rotary traction ring 22, and a freely rotatable circular cutting blade body 48, and the axis of rotation of the cutting blade is inclined relative to the axis of rotation of the traction ring 22 at the angle of 6°. At the actuation position, the cutting blade body pierces the thickness outside in the radial direction of a metallic material comprising an edge part, but the material is not cut completely across the edge part, and a can end part is cut leaving smooth edge part on both the can end part and a side wall. Complete separation of the end part cut from the can body can be easily achieved by holding jaw parts 70, 72 capable of holding the edge part attached to the can end part, and movable by a user to detach it from a rest part of the edge part attached to the can body.
