To provide a highly reliable clothes dryer and washer/dryer for avoiding a situation that a compressor fails or stops even when the airflow of air for drying is changed.
The disclosed clothes dryer is provided with a drum 1 that accommodates clothes; a heat pump device, wherein a compressor 16 that compresses coolant, a radiator 17, a decompressor 18 that decompresses the high-pressure coolant that had radiated heat at the radiator 17, and a heat sink 19 are connected by ducts in such a manner that the coolant can circulate through in the given order; a circulating air duct 13, wherein an air blower 4 that blows air for drying is disposed along the air duct, and which circulates air for drying in order from the drum 1, passing the heat sink 19 and the radiator 17, and again to the drum 1; an airflow controller that controls the air blower 4, thereby adjusting the airflow of air for drying within the circulating air duct 13; and a compressor controller that controls the rotational frequency of the compressor 16. The compressor controller alters the rotational frequency of the compressor 16 in response to fluctuations in the airflow of air for drying within the circulating air duct 13.
