The clothing dryer includes: heating means 5, 16 for heating drying air blown by blowing means 9; temperature detecting means 18 for detecting a temperature of drying air; cloth amount detecting means 17 for detecting the amount of clothing input in a drum 1; and control means 22 for controlling a drying operation. The heating means 5, 16 have a first temperature that is set during a drying operation and a second temperature that is set during a sterilizing operation and higher than the first temperature. The control means 22 is capable of carrying out a sterilizing operation by heating drying air to the second temperature when the cloth amount detected by the cloth amount detecting means 17 is equal to or less than a prescribed amount with respect to a rated capacity.
