Abstract:
PURPOSE: To efficiently obtain a co-oligomer which has reduced by-products and excellent selectivity and is useful for detergents, etc., by reacting ethylene with a specified alpha-olefin in the presence of a specified catalyst under oligomerization conditions.
CONSTITUTION: The objective co-oligomer of formula II (wherein (p) is 1 or greater) is obtained by reacting ethylene with at least one additional alpha olefin in the presence of a catalyst which contains a bis(cyclopentadienyl) Group IVA metal compound in which at least one cyclopentadienyl group is substituted with a cycloalkyl- and/or an arylalkyl and a plurality of boron atoms and is obtained by bonding a compound having a bulky anion which is substantially non-coordinating under reaction conditions and a cation under oligomerization conditions, wherein ethylene and at least one kind of the additional alpha-olefin of formula I (wherein R is a hydrocarbon) are made to exist so that the alpha- olefin and ethylene are in a mole ratio of at least 1.
