PURPOSE: To improve deashing efficiency, by adding water to a coal agglomerate having fine air bubbles captured therein which is obtd. by adding an emulsifier to a coal/water slurry, introducing air and mixing, and allowing the mixture to stand still.
CONSTITUTION: A coal slurry comprising a pulverized coal having a particle size of up to 50μm and water which has been agitated by means of an agitator 1a at all times is fed from a storage tank 1 through a pump 2 to a line 3. An emulsifying oil in an emulsifying vessel 4 is introduced through a pump 5 into the line 3, and compressed air produced by means of an air compressor 7 is injected into the line 3. The whole is fed into an agitator 9, wherein mixing is performed between blades radially fixed to a shaft 34 and baffles 38 to thereby form a coal agglomerate having fine air bubbles captured therein. The slurry is fed into an agitation vessel 11a of a separating/washing vessel 11, wherein the slurry is diluted with water from a line 12. The diluted slurry is transferred into a standing vessel 11b, wherein ash is separated. The obtd. slurry contg. a coal agglomerate having a decreased ash content is fed through a separating/washing vessel 11' into a dehydrator 14, wherein dehydration is performed. Separately the water contg. the ash and the water obtd. by dehydration by means of the dehydrator 14 are introduced into an agitation vessel 21, a coagulant is added and the mixture is transferred into a precipitation vessel 23 wherein the ash is coagulated and precipitated.
