To provide a coal feeder capable of quickly detecting the clogging of coal and easily solving the clogging.
A limit switch 13 is turned on when the coal is dropped in a coal feeding pipe 11 and turned off when the coal is not dropped. Accordingly, the clogging of coal can be detected by the limit switch 13. An air nozzle 16 is normally located in a sidewall of the coal feeding pipe 11 to be prevented from disturbing the dropping of coal, but it is moved from the sidewall to the inside of the coal feeding pipe on the basis of the command of a controller 14 when the clogging of coal is detected by the limit switch 13, to upwardly inject the compressed air. The air nozzle is reciprocated several times in the radial direction of the coal feeding pipe 11 in a state of injecting the compressed air. Whereby most part of the coals 30, 31 clogged in the coal feeding pipe 11 can be upwardly blown up, and the clogging of coal can be solved in almost all cases.
