To provide a coated printing paper having excellent white paper brightness, white paper surface properties, printing gloss and printability, and to provide a method for producing the paper.
The coated printing paper has one or more pigment coating layers formed on at least one surface of a base paper and a surface layer formed on the pigment coating layer by spray coating method, wherein the surface layer contains 25-90 mass% plastic pigment based on the total solid content of the surface layer and is subjected to smooth finish treatment. The plastic pigment preferably has a hollow structure. Preferably, the surface layer contains a thermoplastic polymer latex having a glass transition temperature (Tg) of 40C and 80C in an amount of 5-70 mass% based on the total solid content of the surface layer.
