PURPOSE: To easily produce the decorative surface which has stereoscopic feel and has shadows at a high speed by disposing a coating roll in common use as a doctor roll to the position where said roll has the spacing corresponding to the thickness of a coated film from a coating roll and comes into contact with a surface to be coated on the tangent of a graded straight line drawn out of said surface.

CONSTITUTION: The rotation of a roll coater section 6 is tuned by a control section so that the coating roll 7 comes into contact with the decorative surface 16a and the end part of recesses 18 in the progressing direction is wiped away to form the coated film to, for example, about 5micron thickness; moreover, the peak surfaces of projecting parts 19 have the coated film thickness distribution increasing gradually to approximately a sloped shape. Needless to say, an elastic body 7b of the coating roll 7 is compressed and the thickness of the coated films decreases accordingly upon contact of a point 20 with the peripheral edges 19a of the peak surfaces of the projecting parts 19 in the progressing direction. The outer peripheral surface of the coating roll 10 in common use as a doctor roll spreads the paint 20 squeezed out of said elastic body by much as the film thickness component projecting from the gap t between the peak surfaces of the projecting parts 19, thereby forming the coated films to the high thickness down to the recesses 18.
