To obtain a coating agent which makes a thermoplastic substrate lithographically printable by mixing a binder (e.g. polymer of a vinylically unsaturated carboxylic acid) with a particulate substance (e.g. talc), an ultraviolet stabilizer and a surfactant.
This coating agent comprises 20-80wt.%, based on the total coating agent, binder (e.g. (co)polymer of a vinylically unsaturated carboxylic acid), 20-80wt.% at least one particulate substance which heightens ink receptivity and selected from among silica, talc, diatomaceous earth, calcium silicate, bentonite and clay, 0-15wt.% ultraviolet stabilizing additive and 0.5-10wt.% surfactant. Component A is exemplified by (meth)acrylic acid polymer. Component D is a component important for dispersing component B and is exemplified by an anionic emulsifier. The thermoplastic substrate to which the coating agent is applied is a film made of any desired thermoplastic substance. It is desirable that it has been subjected to primer treatment, corona discharge treatment or the like.
