To provide a coating apparatus that coats with a coating liquid having high solid content, high viscosity and high thixotropy at a stable discharge rate directly after starting the coating, thereby reducing coating weight dispersion.
A coating apparatus 100 includes: a main flow channel 2 provided with a coating liquid storage part 1 for storing a coating liquid; a coating liquid supply part 3 provided in the main flow channel and feeding the coating liquid inside the main flow channel; a coating head 4 provided in the main flow channel on a downstream side D beyond the coating liquid supply part, and coating a base material with the coating liquid; a coating liquid collection part 5 provided at a discharge port 4a of the coating head, for collecting the coating liquid discharged from the discharge port; a return flow channel 6 whose end parts are connected to the coating liquid collection part and the coating liquid storage part; and a pressure measuring part 7 for measuring pressure in a section between the coating liquid supply part and the coating head in the main flow channel, or inside the coating head.
